Ian Anderson brings the first Acoustic Jethro Tull Tour to the UK for 11 dates in March 2007.

The band will include long time Tull guitarist Martin Barre as well as special integrated guest violinist Anna Phoebe.
Ian Anderson says. 'My role in life was always to be an acoustic musician but for the last 38 years, I have had some very noisy friends! This will be the first time we've actually done a really Acoustic Jethro Tull Tour. Over a third of our catalogue of recorded material is acoustic or contains sections of acoustic music and the shows will feature a number of these tracks including Fat Man, Dun Ringill and Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day.
We have also re-arranged some of our more rock-oriented songs like Aqualung, Locomotive Breath and My God. So the concerts will contain a varied selection of old and new music.'
Violinist Anna Phoebe will join the band for many classic Tull tracks as well as some Ian Anderson/Tull material not previously performed in the UK. She will not be the opening act but will play some tracks from her new album "Gypsy" with Jethro Tull. The acoustic tour first goes to The Netherlands and Scandinavia at the end of November.
EMI Records plan to release a Best Of Acoustic Jethro Tull album in early March 2007. Some bonus tracks of new or unrecorded music will also feature on this CD.

DAVID GILMOUR ON AN ISLAND GETS REISSUE WITH BONUS DVD

On Nov.28, Columbia Records will be re-releasing On An Island, the solo album released earlier this year from David Gilmour, the guitar and voice of the legendary Pink Floyd.
With a DVD of Gilmour's exclusive AOL Sessions performance, this is a must have for die hard Floyd fans.
On An Island is a collection of songs and instruments that had its genus in the critically acclaimed 2002 London Festival Hall concerts. Gilmour has stepped out of his super-group to discover he's still at his peak - and he's rightly pleased.
'Its my best and most personal work,' he says. 'Making it with my musician friends has been a positive experience on so many levels.' And touring it this spring can only take him to a new high.
The DVD content includes the live AOL Sessions and the tracks On An Island, This Heaven, Smile, Take A Breath, High Hopes, Comfortably Numb and Astronomy Domine. A bonus version of Take A Breath is taken from Gilmour's Royal Albert Hall performance.

'GODFATHER OF ACID JAZZ' RETURNS WITH ALBUM REISSUES AND LIVE DATES

The work of the legendary jazz, rock, funk Hammond B3 organ player, Brian Auger, is to be celebrated by Castle Music in a massive digitally remastered album reissue campaign over October and November 2006.
Auger will also be undertaking a European tour to support the releases and will be performing three UK concerts in November.
Dates include The Civic Hall in Stratford upon Avon (Nov 27), London Pigalle Club (Nov 28) and the Brighton Concorde2 (Nov 29).
All eight albums will include new liner notes, rare photographs, original packaging, while selected albums will include rare bonus tracks.
Brian is touring with a new version of Oblivion Express featuring his son Karma Auger on drums and daughter Savannah on vocals. The jazz rock virtuoso who gave us "This Wheel's On Fire", and hailed as the undisputed "Godfather of Acid Jazz", has not only toured with bands like Led Zeppelin and the Doors, but has collaborated with Jimi Hendrix, Eric Burdon and the Yardbirds.
He flipped the lid on the British jazz rock scene, gave it new meaning, and pioneered the bands - Steampacket (featuring a young Rod Stewart), The Trinity (featuring Julie Driscoll) and the Oblivion Express.
His diverse and distinctive fusion of jazz, rock and funk has been a massive influence on a lot of today's new bands.

VOICE OF ROCK RETURNS HOME
To coincide with the release of his new album Music for the Divine, Glenn Hughes the golden-voiced former vocalist and bass player for rock legends Deep Purple, will be undertaking European tour, beginning with two shows in the U.K. and more dates scheduled for spring 2007..
Close friend Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers plays drums throughout and was actively involved in all aspects of the recording and production of Music for the Divine, as he was with the previous commercially successful album Soul Mover. Chad's enthusiasm and contribution have been pivotal in making this Glenn's most commercially successful period of his career since his days in Deep Purple.

Rather than simply trading on past glories, Glenn Hughes is currently one of the most prolific artists of his generation who is still able to attract the musical involvement of the calibre of the Smith and John Frusciante from the Chili Peppers, Dave Navarro and Jerry Cantrell.
"I am so much looking forward to returning to the UK. I still have lots of friends and fans here so it's all about presenting some new stuff and maybe turning the clock back to some old numbers too," said Glenn Hughes

HACKETT ON THE GENESIS REUNION

Original Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett who left the band after Wind and Wuthering to pursue a successful solo career, has said of the forthcoming Genesis reunion:
"First of all I would like to congratulate Tony, Mike and Phil for flying the flag once again. Good luck to them and I really hope they have a very successful tour.
I was originally approached to discuss the possibility of a five piece which would have included Peter Gabriel and yours truly but since Peter's schedule precludes this, it makes sense for the other three to celebrate the band in their 'own special way' as it were ...."
Steve recently released a new record, 'Wild Orchids', which has been described as his best album for years. He starts a Japanese tour later this month and is planning a series of UK shows early in 2007.

FIRST RELEASE IN OCTOBER FOR 'LOST' DAVE STEWART ALBUM

'Platinum Weird', the band allegedly formed by Eurythmic Dave Stewart in 1973-4 gets a 'reissue' of its eponymous album in October.
Says Stewart, "Platinum Weird formed end of 1973 and only lasted till end of 1974. I was still meant to be in the band Longdancer - signed to Rocket Records - but I met Erin (Grace, Stewart's companion) and decided to form a band with her.

I played Elton John 'Platinum Weird' songs secretly on a cassette, and he agreed that it would be a good idea for me to hook up with Erin instead of Longdancer, and eventually signed Platinum Weird."
You can judge the album for yourself when it is released October 30.
Dave Stewart and Kara DioGuardi of Platinum Weird will be in London week commencing Monday 13th November to present Bon Jovi an award at this year's UK Music Hall of Fame Awards, held at Alexandra Palace on Tuesday November 14th (aired on Channel 4 on 16th November).
Other inductees include James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Brian Wilson, Rod Stewart, Dusty Springfield and Sir George Martin.

10CC COMPILATION INCLUDES BAND PROJECTS AND UNRELEASED TRACKS
'10cc - Greatest Hits And More' - a 2CD greatest hits compilation album - is to be released in the UK on 6 November 2006 (by UMTV).
This is the first 'best of' album for almost ten years and represents a complete history of 10cc and the projects the four members were involved with before and after, including unreleased material from Graham Gouldman (performing the songs he wrote for The Yardbirds, The Hollies, Herman's Hermits).

The combined song writing, instrumental and production talents of Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley made some of the most influential and memorable pop-rock songs of the late 70's and early 80's, from the pop parody of 'Donna' to the catchy rock of 'Wall Street Shuffle' to the Beatles-esque pop of 'The Things We Do For Love'.
With eleven top 10 hits, including the number 1s 'Rubber Bullets', 'Dreadlock Holiday' and the iconic 'I'm Not In Love', 10cc were hugely popular, but the story didn't end when the band split. Hits from Godley & Creme and Wax show the former members still had the knack of writing a great song.

EUROPE BACK WITH SECRET SOCIETY
In the summer of 2006, EUROPE began recording Secret Society with Lennart Östlund, long time engineer at the legendary Polar Studios in Stockholm.
Lennart has worked with countless international artists over the years, including Led Zeppelin and The Scorpions, just to name a few. When Stefan Glaumann, (Rammstein, Clawfinger, Paradise Lost, Within Temptation), agreed to work with them and mix Secret Society, the band was overjoyed - all of the pieces were beginning to fall into place.

The band enlisted the legendary Storm Thorgerson to design the artwork. As a member of the design studio Hipgnosis, Storm worked on all the classic album covers by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel.
Guitarist John Norum reminisces: "Growing up, my favourite covers were done by this guy. The cover of UFO's Obsession and the Michael Schenker Group's first album cover really blew me away." Storm has recently created the CD art work for bands like Mars Volta and Muse.
'Secret Society' is Europe's seventh album. This CD is modern and contemporary, without losing sight of traditional rock influences.
As drummer Ian Haugland explains: "When Joey and John get together to write, the sparks just fly. And when the rest of us join in, it's like setting off a stick of dynamite. Tunes like Love Is Not the Enemy, The Getaway Plan and Human After All are going to be great to play live."
On this new album, keyboard player Mic Michaeli has been more actively involved in the writing process, colouring the music with his synthesizers and keyboards. In collaboration with Joey, he's created songs that have truly broadened the musical scope of the band.
'Secret Society' is released on October 30.

BAT OUT OF HELL III - OUT OCTOBER 31

On October 31st Meat Loaf is releasing Bat Out of Hell III - the final piece of the Bat Out of Hell trilogy, on on Virgin Records in North America, and Universal Records outside of North America.
'Meat Loaf holds such a unique place in pop culture,' Virgin Records Chairman/CEO Jason Flom commented. 'His name, voice and artwork have come to symbolize great American pop/rock music. We are excited to be involved with Meat Loaf and Bat Out of Hell III because good things always come in threes -- and the only thing better than Bat Out of Hell is Bat Out of Hell II, and the only thing better than Bat Out of Hell II is Bat Out of Hell III!'
The album was produced by hit-maker Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Cher) with additional vocal arrangements by Todd Rundgren (producer of the first Bat out of Hell). 'Bat Out of Hell albums are really renegade records; when they come out they are never like anything else,' observed album producer Child. '(In this project), Meat Loaf saw a door open to a new style that is the future of Bat Out of Hell. He wears all of his emotions on the outside.
Meat Loaf agreed: 'I took all the songs a little more personal; I became more internal on this record, (and) there were less character studies.'

WATERBOYS SIGN W14 DEAL
The Waterboys have signed a deal with W14 Music - the new Universal Music Group imprint headed by MD John Williams. This follows the recent signings of Level 42 and Siouxsie Sioux to W14 Music, and sees Williams reunited with Mike Scott twenty years after they first worked together.
An extraordinary songwriter and lyricist, Mike Scott formed The Waterboys in 1982 and has been the driving force and artistic heart of the outfit throughout its various incarnations, relentlessly exploring a variety of musical styles.
Scott's songs rank as some of the most imaginative and distinctive of the past quarter century. In 1991 he was the deserved winner of an Ivor Novello (songwriting) Award for arguably his best-known song to date, 'The Whole of the Moon'.

Classic Rock News Update

from Dave White

It looks like it's going to be hard to get health insurance if you list "member of Mötley Crüe" as your occupation. The latest Crüe show stopper occurred October 12 in Casper, Wyoming when drummer Tommy Lee was injured by some errant fireworks. He was treated for minor burns, and all that was lost was the encore. It has been less than a month since lead singer Vince Neil tore a leg muscle during a show in Atlanta.

Eric Clapton will soon join the ranks of Classic Rockers who are published authors. The not-yet-titled memoirs will be published in 2007, coinciding with a much anticipated boxed set and a U.S. tour. According to publisher Random House, the book will address "everything that is known about his life as well as much that is not."

Poems written by Bob Dylan will be among the items to be sold at a November 21 Pop Rock Memorabilia Sale being conducted by Christie's auction house. Other items include some lyrics handwritten by Jim Morrison, and a gold medallion worn by Jimi Hendrix.

Billboard magazine's highest honor for creative achievement, will be presented to Tom Petty on December 6 in Las Vegas. Petty and the Heartbreakers have just completed a successful North American tour. Petty's third solo album is due to be released in early 2006.

THE SUMMER'S END FESTIVAL - PROG ROCK CELEBRATION IN SEPTEMBER

The first Summer's End Festival is to be held at the Guildhall, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, UK on the 17th September, 2005.

Described as "a celebration of contemporary progressive rock", the event's organisers have confirmed the following lineup: Also Eden, Steve Thorne, Tr3nity, Galahad, The Pineapple Thief and headliners Magenta.

A day ticket for the event is #18 in advance and #20 on the door, but as the venue has a capacity of around 300, early booking is recommended.

Full details can be found at the website

SECOND FIREFEST EVENT IN NOVEMBER

The second FIREFEST festival takes place at Nottingham Rock City on Saturday November 26th.

The line up comprises both old and new faces alike , some of whom will be familiar to fans of melodic hard rock, others which may be new to many fans out there, but all in all it is a line up that proudly represents a healthy blend of old and new.

The festival also moves ‘home’ with FIREFEST 2 moving to a more central location in Nottingham , one of the premier rock venues in England, Nottingham Rock City is a 1900 capacity venue that has played host to Whitesnake, Motorhead, Y&T, Skid Row and many more besides.

In fact if you care to trawl through the annals of rock, it’s evident that more melodic and hard rock bands have played this venue more than any other venue in England. The move should make FIREFEST 2 more accessible to the vast amount of people travelling and bearing that fact in mind it’s also possible one of the best venues to attend a live show.

Tickets can be purchased directly from the promoters via paypal using the fireworks.mag@ntlworld.com e mail address.

Bands lined up include SARACEN, POWER QUEST, BALANCE OF POWER, DANGER DANGER and BLUE TEARS.

And, for the first time on a UK stage since 1988 and following a long period of inactivity, HOUSE OF LORDS have agreed to a one off European performance of their classic material.

CRIBS SINGLE & FESTIVAL DATES IN AUGUST

The Cribs continue their musical blitzkrieg with the release of a new single in August.

The brothers Jarman, who have two Top 30 singles to their name so far this year follow that success with their third, entitled 'Martell'. Lifted from their recent album 'The New Fellas', the single epitomises the vastly underrated trio's knack of knocking out killer tunes.

Arguably one of the highlights of the album, 'Martell' cements the band's position as one of the year's success stories - oft mentioned in dispatches; their contemporaries love 'em! Real life goes on but how those in know wish they could be The Cribs, sometimes confrontational otherwise purely contrary, they live their life onstage as they do off it no matter what. On their day one of the most incendiary live propositions you'll witness, forty five minutes maximum of explosive three minute outbursts...

'Martell' is released on 22nd August thru Wichita Recordings and available on two seven inches and a Cd single.

Meanwhile, the band fire the aural volleys in the States for a handful of shows after which they return to the UK for a short run of shows before the single is released and their appearances at this year's Carling Festivals.

IOMMI CD RELEASED JULY 11

BLACK SABBATH AXE-SLINGER JOINED BY VOCALIST/BASSIST GLENN HUGHES AND DRUMMER KENNY ARONOFF

TOUR PLANNED AFTER THIS SUMMER'S OZZFEST

Iommi

Tony Iommi, the legendary Black Sabbath guitarist, will release his new album Fused on July 11, via Sanctuary Records. This will be Iommi's third solo album.

Joining Iommi on Fused is former Deep Purple vocalist/bass guitarist Glenn Hughes and former John Mellencamp drummer Kenny Aronoff, who has also played sessions with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Lynyrd Skynyrd and countless others. The trio will hit the road to promote Fused later this year after Black Sabbath finishes headlining the 10th anniversary Ozzfest tour.

Iommi has worked with both Hughes and Aronoff in the past. Hughes is a longtime friend who sang on the 1986 Black Sabbath Featuring Tony Iommi album Seventh Star. In 2004, previously unreleased songs they had collaborated on eight years earlier were completed and released by Sanctuary as The 1996 DEP Sessions. Aronoff played drums on the song "Black Oblivion" on Iommi's self-titled 2000 solo album, which was loaded with all-star guest appearances. Fused was produced by Bob Marlette, who also manned the studio boards for 'Iommi.'

"I put some ideas for four or five tracks down about three years ago, but I hadn't written them specifically with Glenn in mind," Iommi says. "After The 1996 DEP Sessions was finished last year, I said to my manager that I should try Glenn on my solo album. Glenn came over to England and we did a trial run writing more material and it was unbelievable. His enthusiasm is amazing. He is so full of energy and great song ideas.”

Iommi was eager to work with Kenny Aronoff again and had him in mind from the beginning. The highly respected skins-basher was thrilled about the invitation, especially when Iommi said he wanted to tour to promote Fused.

Iommi's cannot wait to tour with Hughes and Aronoff. "In addition to playing material from this album, we'll probably do a couple of tracks from The 1996 DEP Sessions and a few Sabbath songs too," he says.

NEW CD FROM KING CRIMSON VIOLINIST

David Cross

David Cross, ex-King Crimson violinist, has released a new rock album – ‘Closer Than Skin’.

Containing ten tracks written by Cross, bassist Mick Paul and ex-King Crimson lyricist, Richard Palmer-James, ‘Closer Than Skin’ is David Cross’ 5th album and is an astonishingly powerful statement.

David has combined the musical elements of his old band, King Crimson and his other solo material with a more metal-edged sound. With ‘Closer Than Skin’ David Cross has succeeded in creating arguably the best post-Crimson album of his career.

Recorded in 2005 it’s the sound of a world-class musician at the top of his game, brimming with energy, intensity and confidence.

For two years between 1972 and 1974, David Cross lived and breathed King Crimson along with Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford and John Wetton. Together they created an influential sound that continues to be popular and well-respected more than thirty years later.

Though the influence of Cross’ old band is undeniable, ‘Closer Than Skin’ is no exercise in mere nostalgia. There are many bands who have tried to emulate Crimson’s clout and control though few come as close.

MEAT LOAF LIVE DVD & CD IN OCTOBER

Multi-million selling rock legend Meat Loaf releases `Live With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra' CD on October 18.

It may seem strange that it's taken Meat Loaf this long to record a collaboration with an orchestra. After all, it's difficult to think of an artist whose music would be more ideally suited to such a treatment. Meat Loaf's music has all the ingredients for such a marriage - the grandiosity, the sweeping emotions, the change in moods, the courage to defy convention.

The singer admits as much himself.

'The songs are crying out for this, really,' believes the singer, 'they're very long, very dramatic and melodramatic - even operatic. So of course they're perfectly suited to being played with an opera.'

The live CD was recorded with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, under the guidance of arranger/orchestrator/conductor Keith Levenson. The performance was filmed over two nights at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena - normally home to the Australian Open tennis tournament - on the 20th and 22nd of February 2004.

A companion DVD from the same concerts, titled 'Bat Out of Hell Live with the Melbourne Symphony', will be simultaneously released in the UK on Warner Music Vision.

Marillion

Marillion are known for the relationship that they maintain with their fans through their website (www.marillion.com). Continuing this love affair with the internet, a live version of `The Damage', recorded at The Astoria on July 12, will be available from www.marillion.com from Oct 11th.

With the download chart now being recognised by the music industry this looks likely to give Marillion their 3rd chart hit of 2004. The single will be available for just 99 pence.

Filmed on 11th and 12th July at the Astoria in London, the `Marbles On The Road' DVD captures the band in fine form at the end of the first leg of their Marbles World Tour. As well as the majority of their latest album Marbles ("Marbles is a wonderful thing" - Classic Rock), fans are treated to stunning versions of former favourites including Cover My Eyes and, perhaps more surprisingly, The Uninvited Guest.

The extras include behind the scenes footage of the Marbles EPK and promo videos for Marbles' 2 hit singles `You're Gone and `Don't Hurt Yourself'.

This is the first new Marillion film-piece to be released commercially since 1990. Specifically recorded for a DVD release the concert sound is mixed by Michael Hunter in both 5.1 surround sound and 2-channel stereo. The DVD Extras and additional material is provided as stereo-only. The DVD is presented in 16:9 format, is available in both PAL and NTSC formats, and is multi-region.

SINGER-SONGWRITER DEBUT RELEASE IN OCTOBER

Released October 28 is the debut album from singer-songwriter Anna Nalick.

Anna's original plan was to go to college and then follow her dream of a career in music. As she began college, she continued writing and documented her songs on a Rainbow Brite cassette tape recorder. She soon met a photographer (who taught a class at a local high school) who mentioned to Anna that one of her students had parents in the music business. Anna passed along a six song lo-fi home demo and the next thing she knew, that student's mother, a manager of producers and other talent, introduced Anna to Christopher Thorn and Brad Smith, the founding members of Blind Melon now turned production team, and Eric Rosse, best known for his production work with Tori Amos.

Putting her college plans on hold, Anna went into the studio with Thorn, Smith and Rosse as producers, together with mix-engineer Mark Endert (Fiona Apple, Maroon 5, Gavin DeGraw) and an all-star group of musicians that included Smith on bass, Thorn on guitar, Rosse and Zak Rae (Alanis Morissette, Macy Gray, Sinead O Connor) on keyboards, Lyle Workman (Frank Black, Sheryl Crowe, They Might Be Giants) and Stuart Mathis (Jewel) on guitar, Joey Waronker (Beck, Johnny Cash, Nelly Furtado) and Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, David Bowie, John Mayer) on drums.

The result is Wreck of the Day, a collection of 11 songs showcasing the burgeoning and complex talent of Anna Nalick.

ROGER DALTREY ANTHOLOGY IN OCTOBER

For over 30 years, Roger Daltrey has pursued a solo career alongside his primary role as lead singer for The Who. To commemorate three decades of his solo work, Sanctuary Records announce the U.K. nationwide release of the Roger Daltrey anthology 'Just A Boy' on 4th October 2004.

The 2-disc album highlights the varied musical paths Roger has chosen, compiling all his hits and near misses. From ballads 'Giving It All Away' to Brecht's 'Mack the Knife' and with the added bonus of unreleased tracks, "Just A Boy" amply illustrates Daltrey's willingness to adapt to different styles of music.

Considered to be one of the most powerful vocalists in rock 'n' roll, Roger Daltrey's solo album 'Just A Boy' documents the solo career he forged away from The Who in 1973, with the tracks 'One Man Band', 'The Way Of The World', and 'Giving It All Away' taken from his debut album 'Daltrey', through to recent recordings of Who classics 'Pinball Wizard' and 'Baba O'Riley'.

Released 13 September, on Warner Music Vision, is a new Who DVD 'Live In Boston'.

This two-and-a-half hour plus DVD captures the band's concert in Boston on 24 September 2002 following the sudden death of bassist John Entwistle.

The DVD features interviews with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey as well as an Art Gallery feature of Entwistle's drawings.

Queen Prepares To 'Rock' Again

Hollywood Records has set an Aug. 17 release date for a new version of Queen's "Greatest Hits," first issued by EMI in 1981 in the U.K. The upcoming disc boasts live versions of "Under Pressure" and "Tie Your Mother Down" plus an unreleased version of "I'm in Love With My Car," currently being featured in a Jaguar ad campaign.

The surviving members of the U.K. rock act, once led by the late Freddie Mercury, have contributed new liner notes to the package, which will also include previously unseen photos by Mick Rock. Among the other favorites featured on the set are "Another One Bites the Dust," "Bicycle Race," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions."

The release is tied into the Aug. 16 North American premiere of the Queen musical "We Will Rock You," which will open at the Paris in Las Vegas after a smash run on London's West End. Fans who purchase the CD will be able to take advantage of an exclusive offer for a discounted Las Vegas hotel and show package.

"Greatest Hits" peaked at No. 1 in the U.K. upon its original release. Its U.S. counterpart, also titled "Greatest Hits" and released in 1981, reached No. 14 on The Billboard 200. However, the U.S. version had a different track list.

Another album, also titled "Greatest Hits," (with yet another different track list) was issued in 1992 when the band moved to Hollywood Records in North America. That release has gone on to sell 5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Stones Sue Label
Apparently, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones have filed a lawsuit against their record label over royalties of their last album. The British High Court must decide whether Decca Records owes the veteran rockers money for their greatest hits album Forty Licks. The three original members of the band claims that Decca has refused their auditors access to examine records. Their hope is that the label will hand over the necessary documents. The last thing the Stones need is to be slammed by the government on their taxes.
